Shirley Diann Hunick (Duncan)

Shirley Diann Hunick Duncan passed away on November 20, 2014 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray from cancer in which she fought a very brave and courageous fight.

Diann was born April 20, 1955 in Murray to Eugene Grant Hunick and Shirley Marlene Margetts. She lived in Midvale throughout her teen years and attended Hillcrest High School.

Diann married Verl Ray Duncan on April 22, 1972 in Elko, Nevada. They returned from their honeymoon and started a new life together in Murray.

Verl was an owner/operator of Taco Time. Together, they worked long hours, side by side, enjoying each other's company while teasing and laughing along the way. Diann was never shy of hard work. It came with her signature smile and without complaint.

Diann and Verl started working in Murray then moved to Maui, Hawaii. While there, Diann obtained her high school diploma along with her son, Clark Duncan. Diann became homesick for family and friends, so they moved back to Salt Lake City.

Diann worked for Albertsons for fourteen years before the closing of the Albertsons stores. The last job she had was with Merit Medical, where she was still employed at her death. Her work story was always the same with employers and employees. They fell in love with her from the start of employment and it ended with a continuing friendship for her lifetime. Diann also in turn loved her work and the many friends that she met along the way.

When Diann had spare time, she would enjoy reading, listening to old music and old movies, camping, and fishing. Before Diann's knees got bad, she enjoyed water skiing, boating, and snow skiing. Verl and Diann enjoyed the greatest time just being together. It was very rare to see one without the other. Two of the favorite places to vacation were the Oregon Coast and Disneyland. They were married for forty-two happy years.

She was loved dearly by her family and will be missed greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by husband, Verl Ray Duncan; children, Clark Verl Duncan; sisters, Kathy (Doug) Martinez and Lori (Ernie) Fresquez; brother, Craig (Kathy) Hunick; sister-in-law, Lois Duncan Abercrombie; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray, with a viewing prior from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
