Marian Boggess (Gates)

Marian Boggess (Gates)

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend Marian B. Gates passed away February 8, 2023, at the age of 68, after a brave and courageous battle with breast cancer. Marian was born January 10, 1955, in Murray, Utah, to Reid and Clara Boggess. She has two brothers Jerry and Lars, and two sisters Pauline and Sue. She grew up on a large family farm in Midvale and loved all that it encompassed. As she got older, she gained an appreciation and affinity for antiques from her father.

She graduated from Hillcrest High school in 1973 then married her eternal companion, Daniel Gates, on September 20, 1973, in the Salt Lake temple. As a couple, they worked hard and played hard. They took the family out for boating trips in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Basketball was a big part of Marian and Dan’s life. They enjoyed attending Utah Jazz games and were season ticket holders for 30 years.

Marian and Dan opened their own automotive repair shop in 2000. They worked together for many years and enjoyed having their own business. Over the last 5 years, Marian was proud to be a female auto repair shop owner. Marian was a member of and faithfully served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially loved working with the children in primary and scouting.

Marian created a wonderful environment for her kids to grow up in, where all the neighbors wanted to hang out. She was always making baby blankets for family and friends. As a certified master gardener, she could name nearly every flower, plant and tree around her.

She loved her kids a bunch, but she loved her grandkids a bunch more. She adored her twelve grandchildren Lance, Dylan, Olivia, Amber, McKenzie, Zachary, Addison, Katie, Tyson, Khloe, Bridget, and Brody. They brought her a lot of joy. She liked to do a lot of crafts and baking with them.

Marian was always kind and looking for ways to serve others. Neighbors and friends remember her as a wonderful person.
Marian is survived by her children Mike (Tammy), Shawn, Heather (Brent) Buttars, Greg, Brent (Kami), Darin (Paola), and her twelve grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Daniel, her parents, and sister Pauline.
